Common Copies는 쉽게 지나칠 수 있는 것들 속에서 오래 남을 무언가를 발견하고, 시간이 지나도 다시 바라볼 가치가 있는 이미지를 만드는 것에 관심이 있습니다. 우리는 사진이 단순히 어떤 것이 어떻게 보였는지를 보여주는 것 이상이라고 믿습니다.
하나의 이미지에는 그 시대의 사람들이 살아가는 방식과 주변의 분위기, 그리고 그 시대가 가진 감각이 자연스럽게 담깁니다. 그러한 이미지들이 하나둘 쌓여, “우리 시대의 초상” 이 되고, 미래를 위해 남겨진 현재의 기록이 됩니다.
Documents the present. For us, photography begins with a very simple idea. “To document the ordinary present that exists all around us.” We document the people living in the present and the things that make up this moment in time. We look at the ways people live, the cities and spaces around us, the things we see and use, and the atmosphere of an era that naturally finds its way into an image. Things that feel so familiar and ordinary today that they are easily overlooked may, with time, come to reflect an era.
Making images is not only about creating something new. It is also about looking closely at what already exists and choosing what is worth preserving. Common Copies is interested in finding something lasting within what can easily be overlooked, and in making images that remain worth returning to over time. We believe photography goes beyond simply showing what something looked like. An image naturally holds the way a generation lived, the atmosphere around it, and the sensibility of its time. As these images accumulate, they eventually become
“a portrait of our time,” and a record of the present left for the future.
